Drug Interactions With Divalproex (Cont.)

 
Ethosuximide (Zarontin)
Divalproex can raise the amount of ethosuximide in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need lower your ethosuximide dosage.
 
Felbamate (Felbatol)
Felbamate can increase the amount of divalproex in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to measure the level of divalproex in your blood and adjust your dose as necessary.
 
Lamotrigine (Lamictal)
Divalproex can raise the amount of lamotrigine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need lower your lamotrigine dosage.
 
Nortriptyline (Pamelor)
Divalproex can raise the level of nortriptyline in your blood, increasing your risk of nortriptyline side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your nortriptyline dosage.
 
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
Taking phenobarbital with divalproex can decrease the level of divalproex in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Taking these medications together may also increase the level of phenobarbital in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider will monitor you more closely and adjust your doses of these medications if necessary.
 
Phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek)
Taking phenytoin with Divalproex can decrease the level of divalproex in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Taking these medications together may also raise the level of phenytoin in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider will monitor you more closely and adjust your doses of these medications if necessary.
 
Primidone (Mysoline)
Taking primidone with divalproex can decrease the level of divalproex in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Taking these medications together may also increase the level of primidone in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider will monitor you more closely and adjust your doses of these medications if necessary.
