Alsuma Medication Information

By constricting blood vessels in the head, AlsumaTM (sumatriptan) can help treat migraines or cluster headaches. This prescription medicine is specifically used to help relieve symptoms after a migraine or cluster headache has begun; it cannot be used to prevent these types of headaches. Alsuma is only approved for use in adults age 18 and older.

Although this product may help treat migraines or cluster headaches, not everyone can use this medication. Information on Alsuma should be discussed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to minimize risks and to help ensure your safety. For instance, people who have heart problems or those at risk for heart disease may not be able to safely use this medicine.

Alsuma comes as an injection that is given just under the skin. While most people tolerate this medicine well, side effects are possible and may include reactions at the injection site or tingling sensations.
