Depression May Cause Headaches in Children

Headaches in children can be a sign of depression. Parents should alert the family pediatrician if a child develops headaches along with other symptoms, such as a change in mood or sleep habits (see Childhood Depression or Symptoms of Depression in Children).
 
Antidepressant medication and psychotherapy counseling are effective treatments for childhood depression and related headaches in children (see Treatment of Childhood Depression).
