The drug is effective at decreasing heart rate, the heart's workload, and systolic and diastolic blood pressures. What Is Inderal LA?

Inderal^® LA (propranolol hydrochloride sustained-release) is a prescription medicine that has been licensed to treat several conditions related to the heart and blood vessels. It is part of a class of medicines called beta blockers. There is also an immediate-release form called Inderal^® (propranolol).

Who Makes This Drug?

Inderal LA is currently manufactured by Akrimax Pharmaceuticals, although it was originally made by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

What Is It Used For?

Some uses of Inderal LA include:

Controlling high blood pressure (hypertension)
Relieving angina symptoms
Preventing migraines
Improving symptoms in people with hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, which is a condition in which the middle part of the heart thickens.

However, this medication is not a cure for high blood pressure or any of these other diseases.

Inderal LA may also be recommended off-label for other reasons, such as anxiety treatment. It has not been approved for use in children.
