Alternative Strategies for Preventing Migraines

As part of your migraine prevention program, you may also consider alternative or complementary prevention options for migraines. What If I Get a Migraine?

If you find that your migraine prevention techniques are not working, talk with your healthcare provider. Together, you can come up with a treatment plan to manage your headaches. Sometimes, at the onset of a migraine, lying down in a dark room with a cold pack can help.

Stress management techniques, such as relaxation and massage, can also help limit pain. They may also make attacks happen less often. Keep over-the-counter pain medications handy. In your migraine diary, make a list of home treatment methods that work for you in different situations.
