Drug Interactions With Topiramate

A number of medications may potentially cause drug interactions with topiramate, including carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, hydrochlorothiazide, lithium, and digoxin. Topiramate drug interactions may alter the level of medicines in your blood and increase your risk of developing side effects like kidney stones, decreased sweating, or excessive drowsiness.

 

Drug Interactions With Topiramate: An Overview

Topiramate (Topamax®) can potentially interact with a few other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to topiramate drug interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol or medications that can cause drowsiness ("CNS depressants")
  • Amitriptyline (Elavil®)
  • Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, such as:
o Acetazolamide (Diamox®)
o Dichlorphenamide (Daranide®)
o Methazolamide
