Zomig Drug Interactions

Zomig Interactions Explained

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Taking Zomig with cimetidine can raise the amount of Zomig in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of Zomig or may recommend a cimetidine alternative.

Certain Antidepressants or Fibromyalgia Medications
Taking Zomig with certain depression or fibromyalgia medications, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. These symptoms may include confusion, hallucinations, a fast heartbeat, feeling faint, a fever, sweating, muscle spasms, difficulty walking, and diarrhea.

Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these symptoms, as serotonin syndrome can be very dangerous.

Ergot Medications
Taking Zomig with ergot medications can increase your risk of dangerous side effects. Do not take Zomig and ergot medications within 24 hours of each other.

Type A Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAO-A Inhibitors)
Taking Zomig with type A monoamine oxidase inhibitors can increase the amount of Zomig in your blood, perhaps increasing your chance of side effects. Do not take Zomig if you have used an MAO-A inhibitor within the last two weeks.

In previous studies, selegiline (a type B monoamine oxidase inhibitor) did not have any effect when taken with Zomig. However, at higher doses selegiline is also a type A monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Therefore, talk with your healthcare provider before taking selegiline and Zomig together.
